Looking Behind November 22

Looking Behind November 22

Often I say, “I have eyes in the back of my head,” as being one busy Mom I had no other choice, and now as I work in an environment of younger people feel that is my only justifiable method to maintain my sense of balance and safety. The story of betrayal remains a long and complicated explanation of behaviours chosen by someone else I wish had chosen otherwise.

I recently watched the movie “The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford”. I discovered how Jessie decided to risk learning about loyalty in his own life, home, and in front of his wife and two children. To Jessie, the two other men in the room were his one hope of reforming his gang of bank robbers, murderers and thieves and these two men, in particular, are chosen by Jessie and are a compliment to them as capable attributes for the continued success of this modern day Robin Hood in the late 1880’s.

Today, 22 November, is the date of one other such betrayal of President John F. Kennedy, who also believed in going to Texas despite what he knew about the animosity resting there against his democratic stance. Sixty-one years ago, he passed away, and today many continue to welcome a resolution to this tragedy. Ironically, his nephew, Robert Kennedy Jr. was elected as a Republican, and one who fought against family betrayals instead of choosing to follow the path towards self-proclaiming beliefs. Maybe we all need to take a minute to relish our opportunity to witness.

In 2013, and fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of JFK, I wrote one brief poem with my Mom residing in her care home as we recall together seeing tragic stories in the news on our television in small-town Saskatchewan Canada. You see even us small-town people loved the glamour of this man, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who was a friend to the underdogs of the world. My Mom born in Ireland feels close to this wonderous Irishman, and we wrote together our few lines as below:

The Grass is Green

I never believe it could happen

The window pane reminds me so;

How wonderful the thought is

To love the colour of green.   Maulo.  1306 heures November 2013

On November 22, I take a few minutes to recall. Maulo
