A Journey Through Ice and Dreams
This recent Mother’s Day in May, I decided to treat myself to something special: my love for figure skating. My journey began in my youth, where I eagerly attended summer skating schools for two to three weeks each summer starting at age eleven. Those days were filled with laughter, falls, and the thrill of gliding across the ice. I remember the joy of passing my Senior Silver Ice Dance, a group of four dances, along with the fifth figure and Bronze Free Skate. Teaching ice skating and figure skating has supported me financially for many years, allowing me to share my passion with others.
The Stars on Ice Canada Review
In May, the 2026 Stars on Ice Canada Review made its way to Kelowna, British Columbia. The excitement was palpable as I stood in line, waiting for the doors to open. While waiting, I met a lovely senior lady from England. She was following this tour across Canada, attending every performance. It was heartwarming to connect with someone who shared my enthusiasm for this beautiful sport.
Our show featured an incredible lineup of talent. Olympic and World champions graced the ice, including Maxine Deschamps and Deanna Stellato-Dudek, past pairs World Champions. We also had the current Canadian champions and World pairs medalists, Lia Pereira and Trent Michaud. And let’s not forget the ever-popular Canadian ice dancing champions and Bronze Olympic medalists, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier. Katelyn Osmond, the Canadian Ladies Wild Champion, joined this stellar lineup, along with many other talented skaters.
A Moment of Connection
As I watched the performances, I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. The ice sparkled under the lights, and the skaters danced with grace and precision. I sent a photo of the event to my children, hoping to remind them of their mom enjoying her passion in the nearby community. It was a simple gesture, but it felt significant. I wanted them to see that it’s never too late to embrace what you love.

The Magic of Skating
Figure skating is more than just a sport; it's a form of art. Each performance tells a story, and every skater brings their unique flair to the ice. I often find myself lost in the beauty of it all. The way the skaters move, the music that fills the arena, and the cheers from the audience create an atmosphere that is simply magical.
Reflecting on my own experiences, I realize how much skating has shaped me. It taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of following my dreams. I remember the countless hours spent practicing, the falls that turned into laughter, and the friendships forged on the ice.
A Personal Journey
Teaching figure skating has allowed me to connect with so many wonderful individuals. I’ve had the privilege of watching my students grow, not just as skaters but as confident young people. Each lesson is a reminder of why I fell in love with this sport in the first place. The joy on their faces when they master a new skill is priceless.
As I reflect on my journey, I realize that my love for skating is intertwined with my identity. It’s a part of who I am. I cherish the memories and look forward to creating new ones. Whether it’s watching a competition or teaching a new student, the thrill of skating never fades.
Conclusion: A Celebration of Passion
This Mother’s Day, I celebrated not just my role as a mother but also my passion for figure skating. It’s a reminder that we should always make time for the things we love. Life is too short to let our passions fade away. So, whether it’s skating, dancing, or any other hobby, let’s embrace it wholeheartedly.
I hope to inspire others to pursue their passions, no matter where life takes them. After all, it’s never too late to lace up those skates and glide into the joy of your dreams.
